White cliffs, the end of the road.
Jock has been living there in a cave for 43 years. His wife left 15 years ago. He never found enough opals to make a living. No geological sign from the surface tells of the presence of opals. So it’s chance more than science.
White Cliffs are three hills where mine shafts are a few metres apart. From the sky, it looks like the surface of the moon. Most people live in dug outs, mine shafts transformed into apartments. some very comfortable. The boom of White Cliffs was between 1880 and 1914. But they keep digging. see page Woody Harris
